Kaizer Chiefs vs Cape Town City: injury and suspension update

Cape Town City will head to the FNB Stadium this weekend for their date with table-topping Kaizer Chiefs without key players.

Thamsanqa Mkhize and Roland Putsche picked up their fourth bookings of the season on Wednesday night against Amazulu.

Austrian Putsche got onto the scoreboard against Usuthu but will miss the vital clash with Chiefs after picking up a yellow card in the dying minutes of the clash

The Citizens finished fourth last season but a poor start to their Premiership campaign sees them sitting just above the drop-zone meaning they need to take something from the meeting with Amakhosi.

City squandered an early two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with AmaZulu at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Kaizer Chiefs injuries and suspensions

Kaizer Chiefs manager Ernst Middendorp can call on his full squad, although midfielder Willard Katsande is one booking away from picking up a suspension.

Katsande skippered Chiefs in midweek despite being on the brink of a suspension but the Zambian midfielder stayed out of the referee’s book.

Chiefs have confirmed the departure of midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela on a short-term loan to Polokwane City.

The winger has yet to make an appearance this season after falling down the pecking order and has not been helped by MIddendorp’s switch to a more direct style of play.

“Kabelo remains a talented player, and we wish him all of the best with City for the next five months,” football manager Bobby Motaung said in a club statement.

Chiefs are believed to be on the brink of another clearout as they seek to maintain squad harmony in their bid to win the Premiership.

Lazarous Kambole, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Kgotso Moleko earned surprise starting appearances against Highlands Park in midweek.

Kambole was forced off the park less than half an hour into the match after a clash of heads with Highlands’ Sello Motsepe.
