Englishman Kerr jets into South Africa to take charge of Baroka FC

English coach Dylan Kerr has cut short his holiday in the US to put pen to paper on his second Premier Soccer League contract.

Kerr helped Baroka’s Limpopo rivals Black Leopards stay up last term before returning to the UK to be with his ailing mother.

Baroka head into the new year just one point above the danger zone and parted ways with their Zambian coach Wedson Nyirenda, who confirmed that he quit the club just days before Christmas. The club had appeared to have been caught off guard by Nyirenda’s departure, but have moved to replace him in double-quick time.

Under Kerr, Black Leopards improved enough to avoid the drop albeit at the end of a six-way relegation battle on the final day of the season.

Kerr may travel to the Mother City with the squad for their first fixture of 2020, but is unlikely to have a work permit in place and will therefore not be able to be in the Ga-Mphahlele technical area.

It is understood that Kerr has been secured on a three-year deal, suggesting he will be charged with more than simply helping Baroka stay up.

“Baroka FC has officially appointed a new head coach, Dylan Kerr, on a three- year contract. He’s warmly welcomed to the Baroka FC family,” a post on the club’s official Twitter account read.

Baroka FC won the Telkom Knockout in 2018, but have since struggled to produce consistent performances.
