While uncertainty looms on what the new October 31 deadline for Brexit might bring, South Africa is considering various scenarios that may affect bilateral and multilateral agreements in its trading with both the EU and Britain. There is one scenario that concerns the Southern African Customs Union that is Britain being left outside of the EU customs union, immediately or in the medium term. In that event, the British have published a tariff schedule, and that tariff schedule says that for South Africa — all fruit-based exports would enter, duty free. However, there will be duties on motor products, sugar and meat products – this is the big concern for South Africa and its neighbors. Here’s more on those concerns
