The Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg has invited South Africans to the celebration of Oliver Mutukudzi’s music on Tuesday. The concert, directed by fellow traveller and compatriot Steve Dyer will start at 12pm until 5pm.

The 66-year-old Zimbabwean master of song, who was affectionately known as Tuku died on 23 January after losing a battle to diabetes. He was 66 years old. Mtukudzi is known for helping a number of budding musicians through his Pakare Paye Arts Centre.

He has also done collaborations with a number of local and foreign musicians.

‘Tuku’, as he was affectionately known, fused the Zimbabwean music style Jiti, the traditional drumming patterns of his clan, the Katekwe, South African mbaqanga, the marimba, Afro-pop styles and conjured up over 67 albums with his own signature music sound, ‘Tuku Music’.
