The Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture resumes this morning with the testimony of Eskom’s Funding Execution Specialist – Sincedile Shweni, expected to be heard in Johannesburg.
Last week, Eskom Treasurer
Andre Pillay told the commission about the plundering the former executives
committed at the power utility.
Pillay said they signed
off financial transactions Eskom could not afford and were against the board’s
instructions. He said the with the Chinese asset management company, Wa-rong
was one Eskom took on and committed Eskom to 260-million-rand in payments
before the company did any work.
He also said the arrival
of other former executives Brian Molefe and Anoj Singh brought
questionable deals. Pillay testified that Singh tried to impose
Gupta-linked company Trillian Capital on a number of Eskom transactions.
