Cope MP Dennis Bloem has taken the stand at the commission of inquiry into state capture on Friday.
COPE Member Dennis Bloem, says he is in the same vein with the testimony of former Bosasa COO – Angelo Agrizzi – on corruption allegations within the Department of Correctional Services.
Bloem was giving a reason this morning on why he approached the Commission…
He said: “When I was following this Commission, when Mr Agrizzi was testifying, I said I must come to the commission. What he said, I know for a fact, it is what has happened in the Correctional Services Committee. I am saying that as far as Correctional Services issues are concerned, what Agrizzi has testified, is why I am sitting here today.
In the week that was, former Bosasa CFO, Andries van Tonder, has told the Commision of Inquiry into State Capture that his former boss, Gavin Watson, tried several times to convince Agrizzi not to blow the whistle on what was happening at the company. The commission heard how Watson was willing to reach any agreement with Agrizzi, just to silence him. Van Tonder also detailed how they sourced cash from multiple sources.
Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has assured those who were implicated in the testimony of former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi, that they will be given excerpts from his affidavit in order to respond and if need be, to cross-examine Agrizzi…
Zondo said: “All their rights would be observed and in due course they would be given relevant portions of the statement of affidavit so that they could deal with the allegations against them. There is no intention on the part of the Commission not to allow people who are implicated an opportunity to respond to the relevant portions of Mr Agrizzi’s statement. There is also no intention to preclude anybody from initiating any processes in terms of the rules of the Commission.”
The commission has also heard evidence from former Bosasa Central Divisions Manager, Frans Vorster.
