SOUTH AFRICA CALLING

January release (Date 01/1.2006)

It's official. South Africa is one of the world's fastest growing tourist destinations. Why? Perhaps its because we have -
11 official languages, 9 provinces, 6 world heritage sights, 4 capital cities, 2 Oceans all coming together to form 1 Rainbow Nation.
(The term Rainbow Nation was coined by one of our Nobel Peace Prize winners Archbishop Desmond Tutu which captures our extraordinary diversity in culture, race, language as well as our sunny disposition as a people living in a bright, colourful country).
Or is it the fact that not only is this such a perfect place for a holiday for ANYBODY with a passport, it's also one of the world's cheapest destinations to visit.
Or maybe because its a country bigger than Italy, France and Germany put together but with the added bonus of having
- the world's largest mammal (elephant)
- the world's smallest mammal (a shrew the size of your fingertip)
- the world's tallest mammal (giraffe)
- the world's fastest mammal (cheetah)
- the world's heaviest reptile (Leatherback Turtle)
- the world's largest Antelope (Eland)
- the world's largest bird (Ostrich)
- the world's largest flying bird (Kori Bustard)
- the world's most feared predator (Great White Shark)
- 900 bird species (10% of the world's species)
- one-sixth of the world's marine species including tons of endemics.
Of course we have not yet even begun to discuss the majestic mountain ranges, vast deserts, floral kingdoms, beaches, forests and bushveld but that would take volumes so, in a nutshell, VISIT SOUTH AFRICA!

Now we have that out the way and you are thinking where to go to book your flight, what accommodation and food is like, or simply hire a car or 4x4? Go no further than this site. We do it all! follow the links or simply contact us directly and we will supply you with a holiday of a lifetime. You may choose one or more of the top attractions like the Cape Peninsula overshadowed by the natural wonder of Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, and the winelands or the Kruger National Park that has recently been amalgamated into a super-park the size of England with Mozambique to for the Kruger Transfrontier Peace Park or the Garden Route with its fantastic natural beauty of beaches, lagoons and indigenous forests. You may also choose an activity like scuba diving with some BIG marine animals or taking a wildlife or a tropical adventure? What ever your taste we at Cruise South Africa will get you, well, cruising South Africa.

To help you along even further, here are some friendly tips when you get here.
South Africans are VERY friendly people.
A common greeting is "howzit?" which basically means "Hi there good friend! How are you?" a positive response from you would then usually be followed by the exclamation "lekker" which loosely translated means "cool bananas", "awesome dude" or just plain "that's good to hear". If your response to the first question is negative the answer is generally "Ag shame!" meaning "that's a pity but should we perhaps move onto a more positive note"
South Africans do however have a few confusing phrases that you need to be aware of:
1. The most common misleading phrase is "just now". Used in a sentence; "I will take you to your hotel just now". This does not mean you will be taken to your hotel right away but rather this is a subjective phrase meaning anytime later than right now, which could mean "in a minute" to a few hours - its open since South Africans do not like to be governed by strict time frames.
2. Another equally open-ended and subjective phrase especially deployed if you ask after someone's health, well-being or what they think of their mother-in-law is "ja/nee" which literally means "yes & no". This affords the recipient the luxury of not committing by neatly skirting a potentially controversial topic while still maintaining a friendly, positive composure.

When it comes to tipping, most South Africans do not expect to be tipped, however, it is generally regarded that a 10% tip for waitrons, drivers and tour guides is observed ONLY when good service has been provided and ONLY on the tipping person's discretion.
Another useful pointer with South Africans is the hand shake done in a 3 part-sequence like this:

This is very important as you will become an instant honorary South African.

MAFIA ISLAND DIVE, TANZANIA
The dive sites are accessed from a traditional Dhow which make for a novel experience and adds to the entire atmosphere. The accommodation and food is superb, and all this on a quint-essential tropical island in the warm Indian Ocean, surrounded by palm trees and cool sea breezes.
Sounds too good to be true, but it was and we had to keep reminding ourselves that this was not a dream!
And even better...Mafia Island is not too bad on the wallet either.
